Overview
VIP is an endogenous peptide of the secretin family, active throughout the gut, brain, lungs and immune system.
Mechanism of action
Agonism of VPAC1 and VPAC2 G-protein coupled receptors, producing vasodilation, bronchodilation, anti-inflammatory cytokine shifts and pancreatic exocrine stimulation.
Evidence base
Investigated in sarcoidosis, chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), pulmonary hypertension and post-COVID inflammation. Aviptadil received FDA emergency-use consideration during COVID-19.
Typical dosing

Safety & contraindications
Hypotension and flushing possible with parenteral use. Intranasal use should follow MSH and other pituitary evaluations per the Shoemaker protocol.
