Overview
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound) is a 15-amino-acid sequence isolated from a protective protein in gastric juice. It is one of the most widely studied peptides in preclinical injury and inflammatory models.
Mechanism of action
Upregulates VEGF-driven angiogenesis, modulates nitric oxide signalling and accelerates tendon fibroblast and epithelial migration. Also interacts with the dopamine, serotonin and GABA systems in animal models.
Evidence base
Extensive rodent literature covering tendon, ligament, muscle, bone and gastrointestinal injury; human data are limited to small observational reports and case series. No large randomised controlled trials to date.
Typical dosing
Research protocols commonly use 200–500 mcg once or twice daily, subcutaneous, near the site of injury when practical; oral dosing has been used for GI indications. Typical cycles run 4–8 weeks. Open the dose calculator →
Safety & contraindications
Well tolerated in animal studies with a wide therapeutic window. Human safety data are sparse; not approved by the FDA and included on the 2023 FDA 503A bulk substances review as category 2.
Common stacks
Often paired with TB-500 for musculoskeletal recovery protocols.
