- Route
- Subcutaneous, oral (limited bioavailability)
Overview
AOD-9604 is a synthetic fragment (176–191) of the human growth hormone molecule, developed by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals in Australia.
Mechanism of action
Retains the fat-metabolising region of GH — stimulating lipolysis and inhibiting lipogenesis — without the growth-promoting or insulin-antagonist actions of the full molecule.
Evidence base
Phase 2 trials in obesity showed modest weight loss (~2.6 kg over 12 weeks) that failed to distinguish from placebo. FDA granted GRAS status for oral use in 2014.
Typical dosing
Common protocol: 250–500 mcg subcutaneously daily, often in the morning fasted. Open the dose calculator →
Safety & contraindications
Well tolerated across trials; no significant impact on IGF-1 or glucose.
