- Intranasal
Overview
Selank is a synthetic analogue of the endogenous immunopeptide tuftsin, developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and used clinically in Russia for generalised anxiety.
Mechanism of action
Modulates GABAergic and serotonergic transmission, elevates BDNF and enkephalin expression, and appears to potentiate benzodiazepine binding without direct receptor agonism.
Evidence base
Russian trials in generalised anxiety disorder report efficacy comparable to medazepam without sedation or dependency. Cognition improvements noted in small studies.
Typical dosing
Intranasal spray, 0.15% or 0.3% solution: 2–3 sprays per nostril, 1–3 times daily, in 10–14 day courses. Open the dose calculator →
Safety & contraindications
No sedation, dependence or withdrawal reported. Human safety data outside Russia are limited.
