Gut-derived 25-amino-acid peptide that amplifies GIP-mediated insulin release and reduces appetite.

Half-life
~5 minutes
Route
Intravenous (research)

Overview

Xenin-25 is co-secreted with GIP from duodenal K-cells after nutrient ingestion. Human levels are blunted in type 2 diabetes.

Mechanism of action

Potentiates GIP-stimulated insulin secretion via cholinergic pathways, slows gastric emptying and centrally reduces food intake.

Evidence base

Human infusion studies restore GIP responsiveness in T2DM and reduce postprandial glucose. No approved formulation.

Typical dosing

Research infusion studies only; no established outpatient dosing. Open the dose calculator →

Safety & contraindications

Nausea at higher infusion rates is the most common effect. Limited chronic-exposure data.
